I can only go so long before I start to seriously crave England. We've've been lucky enough to have lots of visits from my family, who come accompanied by all the English chocolate and sweets a girl can hope for- Malt loaf, crumpets, jelly tots and Cadbury's, Cadbury's, Cadbury's. Family and those delicious reminders keep the craving at bay for a while, but eventually the time comes when nothing will suffice but at trip back to the motherland. That time came in February.
Our trip happened to coincide with Ryan's final Boards Exam- a happy coincidence rather than the result of thoughtful planning, but it did mean he was left with peace and quiet during the one last stress of Dental School. For Charlotte and I, on the other hand, it was all excitement. Unlike her mother Charlotte loves to fly, and unlike her mother she thinks the airport is great fun, and really, with a happy three year old in tow, for once it was.
She was thrilled with her roll along suitcase and happily pulled it, which caused lots of
-awww'-ing' from the other travelers wherever we went.
With some time to kill we rode on the moving walk way over and over and over again. And then it dawned on me that there were planes we could be watching, and since this three year old loves planes it was enough to keep her still and quiet until it was time to board a plane all of our own.
I wish some of the toddler excitement for flying would rub off on me- it terrifies me, despite the number of flights I've been on without incident. Somehow though, pretending to be calm and relaxed for Charlotte's benefit made the flight in question bearable...and she was an angel, which helped with that too. Of course, the best part is always seeing the smiling faces of my family as we arrive at the other end. And seeing Charlotte's face as she recognizes them. And getting a little help with the luggage, since by the time we landed the novelty of the rolling suitcase had long since worn off!
