A LITTLE POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE

May marked the month of Ryan's graduation from Dental School. Between the Gala, the graduation for the Military students, the School of Dental Medicine graduation, and the full blown UNLV ceremony it was about as drawn out as the four years of school!

Ryan made sure he did something to stand out from the crowd at the to her school events he went to- Bow tie for the White Coat ceremony, bolo tie and cowboy boots for the career fair. Of course for the final event with his classmates he was determined to go much bigger, and by 'bigger' he was thinking purple velvet suit with a frilly shirt. Since I was going to be standing next to him all night I got to work trying to think of an alternative that would avoid total embarrassment for me while being out there enough for Ryan.

The solution? Why, a formal kilt of course, leather brogues and all!

Dinner, thankfully no dancing, but speeches and awards instead. Ryan was asked to present an award to his team's favorite faculty member, and he walked away with an award all of his own. He was surprised with the Quintessence Award. We had to look up what that meant but Ryan's convinced it suits him.

Better than the Gala was Ryan's statement in the class 'year book.' His special thanks went to his 'wife Rachel, and daughter Charlotte. Your sacrifice and hard work are greater than anything that was required of me these last four years.' The sweet part may have been overshadowed though- the rest of his statement was dedicated to jokes about the facility and the printed version that we all got to see was censored. We'll never know his original comments- probably for the best!

After the UNLV graduation ceremony- cap, gown, hood, medal and all. Introducing Dr. B:

Charlotte was really good during the ceremonies, spending her time trying to pick out Daddy in the crowd, along with Ryan's friend John who is apparently her best friend. By the time we were ready for pictures though she'd well and truly had enough; we couldn't get her to smile for love nor money, nor candy.

Ryan asked me if it would be weird to introduce himself using his new hard earned title since he's pretty excited about it. I told him it would be completely weird...but if anyone feels like calling him Dr. instead of Ryan he'd definitely be ok with it!
