There are a few things Charlotte really loves. One of those things is trains, one of them is Frozen, and one of them is Peppa Pig. After seeing an episode of Peppa Pig learning to Ice Skate, and then seeing Anna and Elsa skating at the end of Frozen, Charlotte was determined to go ice skating. And by 'determined' I mean she asked everyday for two months if she could go Ice Skating like Peppa.
It just so happened that the Cosmopolitan Hotel had turned it's pool into an Ice Rink for the winter, which sounded pretty cool to me, so just after Christmas we made her wish come true. It all looks like fun and games, but the trouble with a cartoon is that it isn't real life. In the Peppa Pig episode it took about twenty seconds for the cartoon pig to learn to skate without any help.
Of course, if Peppa could do it all by herself Charlotte was convinced that she didn't need any help either, and these happy smiles didn't last for long. She was determined that she didn't need any hands to hold, she didn't need any railings for support, and she was going to 'push, push, glide,' all on her own just like Peppa. A recipe for a pretty frustrated three year old.
All it took was a little reminding that Frozen's Anna was pretty wobbly on her Ice Skates too. If a little help was good enough for Anna Charlotte decided it was good enough for her and, in the end, she conceded to hold on to the railing. With a little persuasion we managed to get in a couple of freak out free circuits before it was time to go.
We rarely make the trip down to the Strip but since we were down there we figured we'd take a turn on the new City Centre Monorail, the closest thing we have around here to a train. Not your average train experience with the pink lighting and fluorescents; it's pretty much clubbing for train lovers. As for three year olds who love trains...it might as well be Disneyland.
