CATCH A WAVE

Ryan tends to spend the first couple of days of his school breaks trying to figure out what to do with himself. Getting up at the crack of dawn is automatic now that he's being doing it for so long; school or no school he's up with the sun, running errands and doing odd jobs whilst Charlotte and I contemplate what's for breakfast. A couple of days into the break and he realizes it might be ok to slow down, at least for a couple of days. That's the point that the wii remotes appear, and the afternoon naps begin, and his brain starts to recover from the stress of the previous semester.

De-compressing is all well and good, but this Spring Break I was determined that we'd actually get out and do something. A road trip wasn't on the cards, but with a forecast of warm weather and the usual Vegas sunshine I decided it was high time we checked out one of the local hotels, and told Ryan that this time he could rest his tired brain by the side of a pool. We were Tahiti Village bound.

We checked in, and making the most of what was left of the sunshine took a little tour of the place, walked to get dinner and eventually got Charlotte ready for bed. She was pretty excited about all of the space in the Queen size bed, and spent some extra time arranging the pillows to her exact specifications. Still, she fell asleep within about three seconds of us closing the door.

Day two was to be out relaxing day by the pool. I lathered Charlotte and myself in suntan lotion, dusted the cobwebs off our swimming costumes and we all ventured outside...to find dark clouds and blustering wind. Being English, a bit of cold weather wasn't about to deter me from my much anticipated day at the pool. We marched onwards to the lazy river since we'd heard rumor that it was heated. Charlotte was sharing Ryan's ring and he thought she'd love it if he took her straight underneath one of the waterfalls- actually, three waterfalls in a row. Soaking wet and feeling the wind, she wasn't happy! She insisted on getting out so she and I dried off and cuddled while Daddy floated for a few laps more.

Dried off, and all smiles

We didn't venture far from the jacuzzi since whenever we got cold it was our only chance of warming back up. Charlotte loved the bubbles and pointing out boys! It was also her personal foot bath. She didn't like the sand on her feet so she'd play on the beach for about five minutes, then march to the hot tub to wash off the sand. Once she was satisfied that they were clean she'd meander back to the beach and repeat the process.

After lunch and naps we headed back to the pool. When Charlotte realized where we were going she burst into tears, clung to my leg, and wailed 'I don't want it!' We took that as a cue to keep her as dry as possible so that she wouldn't get cold. It turned out that pool playtime wasn't as dreadful as she'd anticipated, as long as she was either playing in the sand or no deeper than her ankles. Needless to say she steered very clear of any waterfalls

We rounded off the afternoon with another trip to the lazy river. Ryan and I took it in turns to float while Charlotte walked alongside us. Every time we got to some steps she'd try to persuade us to 'get out!' but as long as she was dry she was having a good time.

No housework, no cooking, no laundry for 72 magical hours. Our two night stay blew by far too quickly, but since we live in a city renowned for its nice hotels and even nicer pools I think we might need to check out another one next time Ryan gets a break.
