We embraced the toll roads and took a trip to Cocoa Beach. First stop though, Ron Jon's Surf shop- because it would be rude not to.
We also took Ryan on a trip down memory lane- or that was the plan, at least. He and his family were stationed on Merritt Island when he was 9 until he turned 13, so we took the scenic route, stopping in Satellite Beach to see his old house. After a tour of his old neighborhood we had big plans to take Charlotte and Max to play at what was Ryan's favorite park growing up. It turned out that wasn't going to be an option. We were blown away to discover that the whole neighborhood had been bulldozed. No more parks. No more houses. No more baseball diamond. Just an enormous field where the boundaries of nonexistent houses were marked by the sporadically placed trees which remained. Not quite the trip down memory lane we'd imagined, but Ryan did manage to spot the lot his house was built on:
Since we weren't going to be spending the afternoon at the Park we headed to another beach and enjoyed some more sun, rock pools, and watching the kids play.
Ryan was ever shy and retiring
And Charlotte was joined at the hip with her Uncle Mike...so, by watching the kids play, I really mean watching Mike and Charlotte wander off into the sunset together!
All of this beach time is making me even more excited that nearly all of the Navy bases are right by the seaside!
